The Olsen Days: An Inside Look At What Happened To Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

When It All Began

The famous Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, were born in June of 1986. Surprisingly, the girls were born on Friday the 13th, which sounds like the beginning of a horror movie plot. Luckily, there was no curse or bad fortune tied to their very unique birth date.

Fraternal Twins

Even though Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen do look alike, the two are actually fraternal twins. In other words, the Olsen twins look alike but they are not completely identical, as some twins are.

While the two girls looked nearly the same at a very young age, you could begin to see the differences between the two as they grew up. In fact, Ashley is even shorter than Mary-Kate by one inch and she’s also two minutes older!

The Olsen Family

These two wonderful twins were born into a happy family in Sherman Oaks, California. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, the girls had everything they could imagine, along with an older brother named Trent and later a younger sibling named Elizabeth.

Unfortunately, the twins’ parents, David and Jarnette Olsen, got divorced in the mid-1990s, which was a shock to the family. The Olsen twins then gained one half-brother and one half-sister, Courtney Taylor and Jake, from their father’s second marriage.

The First Audition

Interestingly, the Olsen twins got into acting at a very young age. In fact, their first acting audition took place when they were only six months old. The story started when one day their mother met a casting agent through one of her friends.

She happened to mention that she had twin daughters and she even showed a photograph of the adorable Olsen babies. The agent arranged an audition for the girls right away and gave them a chance to appear on Full House, a popular ABC sitcom at the time.
